With the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament now in its sixth year, the star-studded event between 12th and 17th June 2007 continues to grow and has successfully established itself as one of the biggest sporting events of the year in the North West.

Due to the tournament’s growing global recognition as an excellent grass court prelude to Wimbledon, the tournament is successfully attracting more and more corporate sponsors than ever before.

Commenting on the increase in sponsorship, Anders Borg is Managing Director of tournament organisers Northern Vision states, “Liverpool’s great heritage in sport made it the perfect location to host the International Tennis Tournament and the support we’ve received both from the public and private sectors over the last six years has enabled the event’s popularity to grow exponentially.

“It’s thanks to the City that the event has gained such commendable status and as confidence in the local economy continues to increase, we’re able to attract even more sponsors, which in-turn allows us to list even more of the world’s greatest names in tennis in the tournament programme.”

Anders adds, “Without the first class support from Liverpool City Council, Liverpool Culture Company and our corporate sponsors, the event simply would not happen. Our public partnerships have allow us promote the event on the City’s rejuvenating international platform whilst private sector sponsorship helps us to attract the world’s leading players.”

Councillor Warren Bradley, Leader of Liverpool City Council, said: ‘This year’s event looks set to provide another great week of first class tennis and its ability to attract the world class talent of Bjorn Borg is testament to how much the event has achieved over the last six years. Sponsorship is a key part of helping this tournament grow and demonstrates the growing confidence that people have in Liverpool as a place to achieve and prosper.”

Alongside main sponsors TFS-ICAP is Liverpool’s very own Maghull Developments, an old friend of the tournament. The developer has supported the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament in the past, but this year radically stepped-up its commitment to centre court with a two-year £100,000 sponsorship deal.

Maghull Developments Managing Director Mike Hanlon states, “We see the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament as a key calendar event to be involved in. Our City’s sporting heritage is second to none and its testimony to Liverpool that the tournament can attract names like Bjorn Borg, Greg Rusedski and Pat Cash.

As an attendee for many years, Mike has witnessed firsthand the growth of this excellent event. As this year is the 800th Anniversary of Liverpool and the following year 08 European Capital of Culture, he felt there was no better time to gear-up his company’s support for the tournament and assist in promoting Liverpool to the 20million plus expected global audience.

Maghull Developments is committed to the future prosperity of Liverpool and sees public, sporting and charity event sponsorship, at all levels, a crucial part of their corporate social responsibility as a business in the City.

Along with supporting charities including Alderley Hey Hospital, Claire House and Jospice (St Joseph’s Hospice Association), Maghull Developments also sponsors a number of sports clubs including Marine Football Club in Formby.

Taking corporate sponsorship and support to another level, Maghull Development’s latest leisure development Formby Hall Golf Resort and Spa will include the UK’s first amateur PGA accredited Golf Academy. The developer is committed to creating a Golf Centre of Excellence for the region which will benefit both young and old budding golfers for generations to come.
